SA based member Patrige Chimwendo participated in the 2025 WORLD TRIATHLON MULTISPORT CHAMPIONSHIPS held in Pontevedra, Spain this past week.
Competing in the U23/Elite Men Duathlon World Champs and Cross Duathlon World Championships as the sole competitor representing Zimbabwe.
It was a fast and furious start to the Duathlon Champs event last weekend and a proud moment for Zimbabwe having an athlete on the start line. The race consisted on a 5km run, 30km bike followed by another 5km run. The bike segment consisted of 5 laps where, for safety reasons, the lapping rule applied. Patrige ran well and worked well on the bike with athletes from USA and Mexico. He was so close to completing the bike leg when he was pulled off the course and was unable to complete the 2nd run leg. This is always such a hard situation to deal with but will make Patrige even more determined and a better athlete.
In the U23/Elite Men Cross Duathlon event held on 26th June, Patrige finished in 26th place overall (9th place in U23) in a time of 01:57:54.
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Patrige for his determination and continued passion for the sport – have a good rest and recover well.
