Congratulations to Rory Mackie who competed in the Men’s 40-44 AG category at the Xterra World Championships held in Molveno, Italy this weekend. A great achievement placing 43rd in the category over what was a gruelling but beautiful course that consisted of a 1.5km open water swim, 10km run and 32km bike course – a stunning venue. He finished in a time of 01:29:25

Rory won the 2002 Alpharetta U23 World Duathlon Championships and was on track to represent Zimbabwe at the 2004 Olympic Games. His opportunity to compete on the Olympic stage was dashed after he sustained terrible injuries in an elephant attack. He made a come back to racing and in 2006 he placed 2nd at the 2006 Nyanga ATU Triathlon African Championships and at the age of 36, made his final appearance as an Elite representing Zimbabwe at the 2018 Troutbeck ATU Sprint Triathlon African Cup. Rory continues to race and compete as an AG athlete in duathlon and Xterra events on regional and international stages.
