Dear Triathlon Zimbabwe members, supporters, parents, athletes and friends,
As we approach the festive season, mid-way through our 25/26 triathlon season we reflect on the year that has been so far, it is with pride and gratitude that we look back on the first half of our season for triathlon in Zimbabwe.
One of the true highlights of the year has been the continued growth of our junior school’s triathlon series. Seeing over 100 children lining up at each race has been nothing short of inspiring. The energy, excitement and sportsmanship on display at these events remind us why developing the next generation of athletes is so important. Thank you to the schools, parents, teachers, volunteers, TO’s and sponsors who make these races possible — you are laying the foundation for the future of our sport.
On the international stage, Zimbabwean athletes have continued to make us proud. Rachel O’Donoghue and Zander Botha both travelled to Kilifi, Kenya, where they attended a development camp, and delivered outstanding performances, each returning home with silver medals. Competing away from home against a strong field is never easy, and these results speak volumes about their commitment, preparation and resilience and they continue to prepare for YOG in October 2026.
We are also incredibly proud of Andie Kuipers, who represented Zimbabwe in Egypt, continuing her strong run of international racing and flying the flag high for our country. Performances like these inspire our younger athletes and show what is possible with dedication and support. It is inspiring to watch Andie’s commitment to Triathlon as she focuses on LA28 Olympics. We are also extremely honoured that Andie was awarded the Olympic solidarity scholarship, that will help her focus on LA 28. A huge thank you to ZOC and IOC for this assistance.
Closer to home, our local racing calendar once again delivered memorable events at Mount Pleasant, Springvale House and Penhalonga with strong competition and fantastic community spirit. From championship races to grassroots events, the commitment of organizer’s, technical officials, volunteers and supporters continues to be the backbone of triathlon in Zimbabwe. Your time, effort and passion do not go unnoticed — thank you for everything you do.
To our sponsors and partners, your ongoing support enables us to host events, develop athletes and grow the sport nationwide. We are deeply grateful for your belief in Triathlon Zimbabwe and the role you play in our success.
Huge Congratulations must go out to our Cycling/Judo/Swimming triathletes. Rohnan Nicholson, Olivia Bemish, Matthew Hilderbrand and John Goddard have flown the Zim flag high at the Africa Youth Games in Angola. Well done to Rohnan Nicholson who won the Silver Medal in the Individual Time Trial. Ethan Donzva represented Open Water Swimming and Xander Stevenson represented on the Judo mat. Well done to all of these amazing athletes.
For those of you that do not know what T100 is – Google it! It is a race that is too long for normal triathletes, and too fast for Ironman athletes, but is the new rage in the world of Triathlon. Triathlon Zimbabwe is very proud of Rick Fulton who was selected to officiate at the T100 event in Qatar last weekend. This just shows the quality and professionalism of technical officials in Zimbabwe.
As we head into Christmas, we encourage everyone to enjoy a well-earned break, spend time with loved ones, and reflect on the achievements of the year. Stay active, stay safe, and remember — every festive treat pairs perfectly with a swim, bike or run!
We look forward to an exciting year ahead, with more racing, more development opportunities and even bigger goals for our athletes at home and abroad.
Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, successful New Year.
Yours in sport,
ROSS O’DONOGHUE, PRESIDENT
