On Sunday 28th September we held our 4th Duathlon National Championships at Donnybrook Race Track. A fantastic morning was had by all and an incredible turnout of Tots, Kidz and Du Sport athletes – it is so exciting and encouraging to see such talent emerging amongst the youngsters and we look forward to seeing them grow and develop into our stars of the future !! Support from schools such as Abbeys, St John’s, Hellenic and Wise Owl is crucial to the development of our sport and we thank the coaches and athletes for coming out in great numbers to participate in both the non-Championship and Championship events.
Our sincerest thanks go to Evolution Insurance Company who have been the title sponsor of this event since its inception, your support is greatly appreciated and you made it happen once again – for this we are truly grateful!
Thanks also go to Electrosales Hardware for very kindly donating the prize winners give-aways and for supplying logistical support for the event. Thanks to Schweppes Zimbabwe for keeping all our athletes and officials hydrated with Bonaqua Water and to Safeguard Zimbabwe for supporting us again with a fantastic team of guards who assisted in all areas, a great crew who are surely part of the TZ family. A very big thank you also to the TZ crew of Officials and Riggers who continue to work tirelessly to produce outstanding events.
There was some highly competitive, exciting racing across the board with the overall Men’s Sprint National Title being claimed by ROHNAN NICHOLSON who stormed over the line in a time of 01:01:39 slashing the record time of 01.02.53 set by Patrige Chimwendo in 2023. Andrew Peebles placed 2nd overall and taking 3rd place was Shine Doko. Sadly there were no entries in the Women’s event.
We extend our sincere apologies to the athletes in the Junior Men U17 and U19 categories and the Youth Boys U13 and U15 categories for errors made in the medal presentation ceremonies on the day – this has been rectified and the correct medals will be presented to the deserving recipients.
