Today Andie and Matt competed in day 1 of the AYG triathlon event. This event was over the Super sprint distance where the Swim section was held in a pool. This event was to determine their swim start lane for tomorrow’s medal event which will be held over the half distance

Each athlete started 2minutes after the previous athlete and had to time trial their race.  10 male athletes from 9 nations competed and 8 females from 7 nations competed. Algeria being host nation were allowed 2 athletes per gender whilst all other nations were only allowed 1 athlete per gender.
Today the athletes started racing in alphabetical order by country name hence Matt and Andie were the last to start.
Matt had an outstanding race despite crashing on one of the corners on his first lap on the bike. He went into it too fast and the wheel slipped out from under him. He got back up quickly and still managed to win the event in a time of 35:37 with 2nd place 45 seconds behind.
Andie had a solid race and was feeling good despite the heat. She placed 2nd, 20 seconds behind the first placed Tunisian girl.
